David has served as Louisville Metro District 25 Councilman since 2010. During his service, he has fought to invest your Federal, State and Local tax dollars back into District 25. As your Kentucky State Senator, David will fight for funding public safety, infrastructure improvements and economic security that works for everyone in our community - residents and businesses.
David has a unique ability to bring people from all sides together to create meaningful legislation and good public policy that strengthens our community.
Through his leadership and teamwork, David has facilitated projects in District 25 to improve infrastructure, make our neighborhoods safer and grow our local economy such as The Regional Libraries, Colonial Gardens Revitalization, New Dixie Redevelopment.
David has been a champion for family rights, workers rights, and public safety while at the same time leading the Metro Council’s economic development to new heights.
David routinely partners with local business, volunteers and nonprofits to make sure that our underprivileged children and families in crisis receive help. David created and leads two annual programs for students in need, Coat-A-Kid and Metro Council Backpack Drive. Through Councilman David Yates’ efforts and working with many different groups, thousands of local school kids received coats and supplies without spending any tax dollars.
Coat-A-Kid has collected and distributed over 1,000 brand new coats for JCPS students. The annual Metro Council Backpack Drive collects backpacks and school supplies for local students that don’t have the basic school supplies they need to be successful.
